The Story Behind Waiting for Thursday
Waiting for Thursday was inspired by a dear friend I met through inmate outreach correspondence.
Mr. Keith was a gentle, kind-hearted older man serving time in prison, and over the years our letters became a meaningful friendship built on encouragement, connection, and mutual support.
In a place where days often blended together and hope could feel distant, he once told me that my letters somehow seemed to arrive on Thursdays more often than any other day. Before long, Thursdays became something he looked forward to — a day that brought anticipation, comfort, and a connection to the outside world. He began signing his letters, "Waiting for Thursday."
Mr. Keith passed away while still incarcerated, but the impact of his friendship remains with me. His phrase, “Waiting for Thursday,” became a lasting reminder of how deeply human connection matters, especially for people living in isolation and overlooked by much of the world.
Waiting for Thursday was created in his memory, and in honor of the countless incarcerated individuals who wait each day for kindness, encouragement, and the reminder that they are not forgotten.
